Cleveland Animal Protective League

If you have a special place in your heart for furry friends, the Cleveland Animal Protective League is your calling for volunteer service. Their mission is to end animal suffering, foster community compassion for animals, and place 100% of their adoptable pets in fur-ever homes. They maintain a shelter and animal welfare clinic. Their services range from spay and neuter services to animal advocacy education and awareness. You can also count on them to perform humane wellness checks on animals the community suspects are in danger. They don’t receive government funds so the organization relies on financial supporters from the community.

If you want to make a difference, they have several ways for you to volunteer your time and efforts. You can help by participating in one of their annual fundraising events, such as the telethon or their annual gala, the Fur Ball. Visit their website to learn the steps you can take to become a volunteer. You can also call them for more information at (216) 771-4616 or stop by at 1729 Willey Avenue to meet them.

Shoes and Clothes for Kids is the only non-profit of its kind in Cleveland and reports data showing that their efforts have positively affected school attendance by up to 26%. Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank

The Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank aims to improve childhood literacy and love of reading by providing free books to children in need through collaboration with community partners. The organization collects gently used or new books, sorts them by reading level, and moves to distribute them through participating preschools, social service agencies, food pantries, schools, and the housing authority. Working to enhance community literacy, the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank has worked to distribute truckloads of books monthly, stocked Little Free Libraries throughout the city, and filled little hands with books to inspire the minds of our smallest and sweetest citizens.
